One contra-indication to successful hypnosis is the client's own feelings regarding the treatment. Clients who are extremely nervous and even scared of hypnosis should reconsider if they have persistent fears of losing control, exposing personal secrets or drifting off into another world. For the majority of clients, hypnosis is a safe and gentle treatment. 

Hypnosis is contra-indicated for the following conditions:

Schizophrenia

Serious Mental Illness or psychiatric disorders

Under the influence of drugs or alcohol

Addictions

Dementia

Very young children under 9 years old
